About The Therapist

Karen Hecker, LMT, MPH, BSN, RN (she, her)
Licensed massage therapist and nurse.

I am a nurse, athlete and a licensed massage therapist in Colorado. Many years of pediatric and adult nursing have taught me the value of massage and bodywork, including teaching clients how to manage pain between sessions if they are interested.

Personal experiences with post operative pain and injury recovery have helped me relate to my clients and adapt methods of bodywork and teaching to fit individual needs.

I am comfortable working with humans from birth to end of life. I consider it a gift to be present with clients, families and loved ones at all stages of life. I have experience communicating with healthcare professionals and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with you and your providers if you choose this option including behavioral health to address trauma and somatic needs.

I completed my massage and bodywork training in 2005 at an accredited school in Michigan; Irene’s Myomassology Institute.

Prior to that, I earned my bachelor’s of science in nursing in 1987 from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) and my Masters in Public Health in 2018 from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

I was previously certified as a personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and I completed training in Stott PIlates without seeking certification. I introduced hand and foot massage to the University of Michigan Cancer Center as part of the Complementary Care Program in 2007. I completed level 2 training in Reiki in early November of 2023. I am certified in infant and child massage through the Liddle Kidz Foundation with Tina Allen, who is globally recognized in infant and child massage.

Therapeutic touch can have a significant impact on bonding, prevention, pain and recovery. I have experienced the benefits of bodywork therapies both by being the recipient and providing services to clients and patients. I practice, intuitive massage and bodywork, meaning, I use multiple modalities dictated by your goals and needs at any given session.

Favorite modalities: Swedish, myofascial release, acupressure, dynamic cupping, work on fascia, dynamic pressure, teaching self-care techniques, helping clients understand how they are put together.

I look forward to partnering with you, and possibly your provider of physical and or mental health, to design an approach that meets your individual needs.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to support you on your personal journey to wellness and healing.
